F is a survivor of FGM, suffering traumatic physical violence at a young age. Help F defend ...

  • Client Location: New York
  • Type of Relief: Asylum in Immigration Court

PLACED

Facts:  F is originally from Guinea where she lived with her mother and extended family. Before she was born, F's father passed away. His death led to the marital union of her uncle with her mother, as is tradition in Muslim communities in Guinea. After refusing an arranged marriage with a man over thirty years her senior, F's uncle began physically abusing her. Her uncle is an Islamic cleric, well known and respected in her community. As a victim of female genital mutilation at age seven, she has already suffered traumatic physical violence, and she fears that returning to Guinea would further jeopardize her safety and freedom.

Legal assessment:  F is in removal proceedings and terrified of what what will happen to her if she is forced to return to her home country. She is eligible for asylum and needs a pro bono volunteer advocate like you to help her fight her case in immigration court. F's individual hearing has been scheduled for October 26, 2020.

F is a French and Fulani-speaker.
