Facts:  J is a 27 year old native of Mexico who has lived in the U.S. for 6 years with his partner and their son, who is a U.S. citizen.  J worked hard to provide for his family, working late night shifts in a restaurant.  One night, as he was leaving work, J was assaulted by five men, and shot in the spine, paralyzing him from the waist down.  J testified against his assailants in court, and his attackers are now in prison for their crime.  J has been wheelchair-bound for the last two years.

Legal assessment:  J is eligible for a U nonimmigrant visa, a special visa for individuals who have been victims of crime in the U.S. who assisted law enforcement. Catholic Charities has already received the required certification from the Manhattan District Attorney's Office that is necessary to proceed with J's case.  J needs a dedicated attorney like you to help prepare and file his U visa application on or before May 4, 2019.
